My Thoughts on Tears of the Kingdom's Gameplay Trailer
I love this video. It gives me so much nostalgia for those great times watching early GoT, before it got properly big and everyone and their (and my) mother started watching it. It's hard to believe now, but literally non of the main cast other than Sean Bean were big names. Sure maybe cinema nerds would know some of the older actors, but after GoT literally all the main cast members became household names.
The GOT fandom is so divided now, people hating on one another for their own opinions on the show when thats what made the show so great. So many different perspectives and interpretations made it so easy and interesting to talk to each other. People who had nothing in common now had something to talk about together. Whenever i rewatch the first season i get this feeling of grief not because of how it ended but because of the damage thats been done to the fandom.
And so far HOTD hasnt been able to put the pieces back together IMO
S5-8 is trash. S2 of HOTD is trash, you would think HBO would invest the appropriate budget on their flagship series, but no, they also gave zero shits about it.
In my opinion Martin killed too many characters that in the end he didn't know what to do with the story, maybe he could have left Oberyn or Rob alive, and continued the story from that point
Even though season 8 was rushed and the script writing was tired. Game of Thrones will go down as the best TV show of all time. Great high fantasy.
House of the Dragon has a truly excellent first season that's worth watching imo. It's incredibly structurally sound, clever in its dialogue and parallels, intentional with its blocking and shots, and have really likeable characters. The second season is not as good but - in my opinion - not anywhere near as terrible as people make it out to be. It's still very character-driven, and could build up to a great third season if the writers play their cards well
GoT wanted to be two shows, one about it's namesake and the other about the White Walkers and Dragons and by the time they started to adapt A Feast For Crows they had only really fleshed out the latter plotline.
Finally a review that I totally agree with! After season 4 the show went downhill because D&D didn't use the source material they had left from the books. They skipped the Dorne plot and the storylines of important characters like Euron Greyjoy. Only season 6 had a few interesting scenes that they used from the books.
I contemplated not watching the final season for months before it came out. I knew from the previous season they were setting up for total failure especially after the rumors that it was going to be shorter. I kinda wish I did to be honest, it was heart wrenching ti watch a story I'd loved and read half a dozen times be destroyed while also spoiling the ending for me in the most catastrophic of ways. House of the dragons is great tbh, it's refreshing to watch something set in the same world that I know they can't fuck it up as bad as the main series. I promise you'll enjoy it I had the same reservations.
so fucking true watching House of the Dragon and comparing it to The Boys, Rings of Power, or any disney+ show, etc they are like night and day despite having the same budget HBO makes all these other shows look like the CW.
House of the Dragon has truly restored my faith in this franchise, while watching the show it made me forget how bad the last season of Game of Thrones was
season 5 is soooo boring. Aria is just not believable as any kind of fighter, and the faceless men thing is a slog to watch.
Invincible! It’s not the big generational show you’re looking for but good god is it good.
the books got me in CHOKEHOLD for the second time.
At this point, I kinda miss the idea of ASOIAF being properly adapted to tv since it’s obvious it can. The whole franchise if it wanted to could be HUGEz
I rewatch seasons 1 through 4 every couple of months or so. Season 2 was a REAL highlight and really gave the show its oomph. God...the whole show felt so alive then suddenly around S6 it got kind of dumb and rushed
I got my mom to watch it for the first time this summer. It was super enjoyable getting to see her reaction.
FINALLY someone agrees with me that the decline started at the end of season four.
No shade, I loved this video and it resonated a lot (especially the Animal Crossing bit, which was a nice surprise!), but I just had to say that as someone who is currently hardcore obsessed with House of the Dragon and can't get enough of it and is rewatching it for like the 3rd time, this was also a bit of a surreal watch lmao. Like I had to check the date multiple times. I strongly recommend it. I think the changes made from the book make it better, some characters are more fleshed out, some relationship dynamics are much more heartfelt. The problem I think is that most of its vocal fandom is filled with people who still hold a very hostile grudge towards the ending of GOT and subsequently to the changes made by D&D, so when it happens in HOTD it's not welcome, even if I personally believe that, like I said, it makes it better.
You hit the nail on the head. Miss this shit so much.
I don't miss it. I regret ever watching it.
House of the dragon is a prequel as much as the hobbit is a prequel to lord of the rings, (although the creators seems to really want to make it a prequel in the second season and I'm really worried) just because it comes early in the timeline it doesn't make it a prequel because it's not about anything in the game of thrones it just happens in the same universe just like the hobbit story is not about Sauron or the ring,l
Remember when I first watched this show on my dads radio back in 1979 when i lived in Centralia, pennsylvania. Good times
GRRM, being the procrastinator that he is, exposed the lack of writing talent D&D had and ultimately was the root cause why the show got bad. All these years I blamed only D&D for the show's failure and now understand why the new characters in the books were either cut or re-written into smaller (and worse) roles. Thanks for that insight.
I only watched GOT for the first time about a year ago, was never interested in any TV especially fantasy. Once I started GOT I feel like it changed my personality. I read the books and really enjoyed them and have watched the show multiple times over the last year. I have yet to lose interest, every day I’m watching so many youtube videos and checking GRRM’s not a blog even researching our history to find the parallels to the books.. I’m obsessed lol
I wish I would stay in the Margery tyrell scenes forever🤤
I was never there for game of thrones or at the time GOT. But there have been shows through the decade. In the nineties X-files, the 2000's Lost craze. Then Game of thrones in the 2010's. For me in some ways it was Stranger Things. I've seen the series 4 times and it is amazing and for a little bit it was the next Game of Thrones but then there was so much time between seasons 3 and 4 and even longer between 4 and 5 that it lost that. I'm going to watch season 5 but it lost what the earlier season had. But it never compromised on the main story like GOT did. I think because of the writers strike and the pandemic that a show trying to elevate itself like GOT did is probably starting right now. But you won't see it until 2026 by the earliest. Streaming messed with what is a season. only allowing for 8 episodes. Can and does mess with what story telling for GOT there is 10 episodes per season because that is all there needed to be to tell the story. But for newer shows the story needed more screen time to work.
DnD really dropped the ball past season 4 when they decided not to adapt books 4 and 5 into multiple fleshed out seasons but past that it’s more grrms fault for not finishing his series in time to adapt more seasons afterwards.
House of the Dragon is really, really good. We're back boys. (and gals)
Let's be clear, season 8 was NOT better than an avarage TV-show. The universal dislike was not due to it being bad by GoT standards, but due to it being bad by any standards. Season 8 was, by all accounts, and from a purely objective standpoint, horrorfying. And that has nothing to due with it being GoT, though this may have been why it was regarded as such a monomental dissapointment. The reality is that it was so horrible, that nothing that had ever been made before it, by any show, would surpass it in terms of how horribly written it was. Nothing made any sense, and the people who wrote it clearly never saw their own show, or indeed knew the characters within it... everything just happened because the plot needed it too. Peak GoT had it's characters make the plot, but late GoT had it's plot make it's characters.
I will never grasp the overwhelming hatred people have for Seasons 5 and 6. Dorne does NOT ruin season 5 yall. The final 3 episodes of that season are PEAK. Mother's Mercy (finale) is one of the best episodes and the most underrated episode of the series. Season 6 has the best final 2 episodes of the series. I agree that season 4 is by FAR the best season. But Season 5 is very very good and season 6 is very very very good. Season 7 is the falloff. Not season 5
Apparently George originally meant for the story to end with Dany's dragons being born, so if you look at that as the true ending than the two or three seasons after seem like nice little extras.
I'm watching it for the first time at the moment, enjoying every second. But I'm at season 5 now and I'm scared of things to come
As a person deeply moved by outer wilds, its incredible to see a video that extracts so much beauty from a moment like this. Incredibly moving video.
First four seasons were just banger after banger episode. Everything after that was weak
As someone who feels exactly like this about got, I finally found that feeling and joy of watching and engaging with it in anime
I wish I watched it as it came out (although I would have been 11 watching season 1). First season I watched live: Season 8…….
“Fragile geniuses” is a perfect term to describe GoT characters
Being critical of the shows last 2 seasons will never change it. Appericate the entire 8 seasons and stop bitching about it.Yeah they rushed it and yes they should have stepped down and handed the reigns over to someone else.
read the books
Watch the video
@@razbutwo oh my bad 😅
Yeah I was one of those who just didn't understand this genre at all and then really hyper fixated on it after S01E09. The fixation lasted for a good while but I haven't managed to feel that feeling ever since. Its really beautiful and sad to think about it. Now that I think about it, the only other time the whole world was on one page about something was THAT SUMMER when PokemonGo came out. I will never forget that either :(
With enough cope, mental gymnastics and headcannon the show can have a bittersweet open ending at s4.
The Doors of Stone comment was uncalled for, okay?
I rewatch it in its entirety and enjoy it still
his books are basically screenplays. so I strongly disagree with your point of it not being adaptable. Not adaptable is stuff like house of leaves or TENET.
sometimes i think about how people died before season 8 came out and they were never able to see it…. lucky people right there
AI 🤖 is coming! Just imagine what AI can create by making show strictly based on George RR Martin‘s writing ✍️. As much as I love Peter Dinklage as Tyrion ,Lena Headey as Cersi , Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth or unparalleled music 🎵 by Ramin Djawadi every thing will be one ☝️ upped except that honeymoon period which started when we first watched this epic .
Your sense of humour is dope man.
I think GoT wasn't going to last. Like, a lot of the main actors where looking like they had a big Film career in front of them and it would have been very difficult to keep them on the show. What I miss most about the show is that everyone watched them. It and the MCU was maybe one of the last things everyone knew so much about. You could bond with people over these things. The pre Covid time now feels like a huge social sugar rush to me and GoT played a huge part in it.
House of the Dragon bangs and you should absolutely watch it, its the best GoT since season 4
